Beyond: collapsible tools and gestures for computational design Citation

چکیده
Since the invention of the personal computer, digital media has remained separate from the physical world, blocked by a rigid screen. In this paper, we present Beyond, an interface for 3-D design where users can directly manipulate digital media with physically retractable tools and natural hand gestures. When pushed onto the screen, these tools physically collapse and project themselves onto the screen, letting users perceive as if they are inserting tools into the digital space beyond the screen. The aim of Beyond is to make the digital 3-D design process straightforward, scalable and more accessible to general users by extending physical affordances and inherent senses of 3-D space beyond the computer screen.

Human Computer Interaction Using Vision-Based Hand Gesture Recognition
With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

متن کاملHow rapidly oscillating collapsible tubes extract energy from a viscous mean flow
We present a combined theoretical and computational analysis of three-dimensional unsteady finite-Reynolds-number flows in collapsible tubes whose walls perform prescribed high-frequency oscillations which resemble those typically observed in experiments with a Starling resistor. Following an analysis of the flow fields, we investigate the system’s overall energy budget and establish the critic...
متن کاملFailure Process of Stone Columns in Collapsible Soils
Many countries in the word have loose and unstable soils encompassing a wide range ofgeological materials, which when inundated, may collapse and cause very significant distress to the structure. Stone columns have been used to strengthen such soils; even so, there are still cases where failure has occurred. In this technical note, the process and causes of stone column failure in reinforcing c...
